Veinote pitches in to lead Broncos by MDI

MOUNT DESERT – Erika Veinote struck out ten batters and allowed four hits to lead Hampden Academy to a 6-4 softball win over Mount Desert Island Thursday.

Mia Megquire doubled, singled and drove in one run. Caroline Woodward doubled and drove in two runs. Rachel Russel had a double and Chelsea Dow had an RBI.

Myra Shannon tripled, doubled and added an RBI. Amy Rider and Lisa Johnson each singled.

Lauren Finn hit an RBI single for the Raiders.

At Belfast, freshman righty Steph Whittier tossed a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking nobody, and Nicole Hubbard had a two-run double and a single to pace the attack.

Ashley Higgins doubled and singled for Belfast while Kate Ross and Sam Ellis had a pair of singles each.

Jodi Newcombe doubled for Camden Hills.

At Orono, Kristi Allen threw a one-hitter while notching eight strikeouts and no walks for the Golden Bucks.

Terren hall had a double, single and four RBIs for Bucksport. Katie Allen had two singles and three RBIs.

Stacy Scott’s single was the only hit for the Red Riots.

At Millinocket, Dayna Somers had four singles and an RBI to lead the Stearns Minutemen to victory.

Holly Frank had a double, three singles, and four RBIs for Stearns. Deanna Michaud had three singles and Leslie Osborne had two singles and two RBIs.

Shannon Pietras had two singles and an RBI while Arikka Knights singled twice for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

At Corinth, Shawna Bell drove in three runs with a triple and two singles as Central bested visiting John Bapst of Bangor.

Lindsay Mitchell tripled and singled and had an RBI, Jenny Rollins hit a solo homer, Renee Trafton doubled and singled and Traci Underhill singled twice for the winners.

Jill Mitchell tripled and singled twice for John Bapst and knocked in two runs. Kim Meagher had a double and two singles and Rachel Stearns singled twice and had an RBI.

At Orono, Pete Wentworth drove in two runs with four singles and Chris Maguire pitched a 3-hitter for the Bucks.

Maguire also had three singles while Nye Gifford had two doubles, a single, and two RBIs. Matt Allison had a double, a single and two RBIs.

Dusty Thomas doubled for the Red Riots while Dylan Huckestein had an RBI single.

At East Machias, sophomore lefty Collin Henry threw a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking three, and Will Rosenthal’s run-scoring double in the four-run fourth helped break open a close game.

Phinneas Peake doubled and singled and had an RBI for Blue Hill’s George Stevens Academy and Blake Wessel and Harrison Hines had two singles each.

At Mount Desert, Blaine Meehan, Pat Moran and Keilechi Sugesawa collected two RBIs apiece as Hampden Academy beat Mount Desert Island.

Meehan ended with three singles, while Moran and Sugesawa each had two.

Kyle Shea doubled and Brad Staples had an RBI single for the Trojans.

At Belfast, Tony Gilmore’s two-run double and Brendan Gardner’s run-scoring single keyed a four-run third inning that helped Belfast to the win.

Nick Arthers had a solo homer and three singles for the winners, Gilmore had a pair of doubles and Paul Herman had two singles.

Ian Doherty, Caleb Peats and Noah Burke each doubled and singled for Camden Hills.

At Ellsworth, Jeff Burditt hit a two-run double in the fourth to spark the Tigers into a come-back win.

Brandon Woodman and Chris Rabideau of Dexter each had two RBIs. Woodman had a single and a double while Rabideau singled twice. Mike Martin had two singles and an RBI.

Aaron Wilson hit a two-run single for Bangor Christian. Steve Blake added an RBI double, Justin Phinney had a double and a single, and Tory Dearborn singled twice.

At Millinocket, Steve Whitney’s two-out single in the seventh tied it and Dylan Hanscom’s two-out base hit in the eighth won it for the Lynx of Lincoln’s Mattanawcook Academy in a battle of unbeatens.

Hanscom had two singles and two RBIs, Dustin Hanscom doubled and singled and Brian Berry had two singles for Mattanawcook Academy.

Ryan Bouchard belted a double and two singles for Stearns, Matt Barnett had a solo homer, Craig Jandreau singled twice and knocked in a pair, George Surette singled twice and Aaron Qualey had a two-run single.

At Pittsfield, Andrew DeBethune spaced six hits, Jake Lasselle singled twice and Marty Quint contributed a pair of bunt singles as Maine Central Institute upended visiting Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Eric Gimbel had an RBI single for Lincoln Academy.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Josh Young pitched a two-hitter to lead the Rams to a shutout win.

Nate Hall and Anthony DeRosa each singled twice for Bangor. Nick Larochelle hit a two-run single.

Singles by Brendan Donaldson and Craig Palmer were the only Nokomis of Newport hits.

Greenville, Forest Hills split

At Greenville, Forest Hills won the first game 10-0 and Greenville rebounded with a 13-3 win in the second.

In the first game, Roger Paradise struck out seven and walked none while pitching a one-hitter for Forest Hills. He also had two singles and three RBIs. Dustin Allen added a two-run triple.

Dan Gaucher’s single in the second inning was Greenville’s only hit.

In the second game, Corey Woodbury notched a complete-game win and had an RBI double for the Lakers. Eric Driscoll had two singles and two RBIs.

Paradise paced Forest Hills with two singles.
