Rambunctious and a free spirit is how Melinda’s foster mother describes this 13-year-old girl with brown hair and captivating light blue eyes.
“Mindy” came into state care in January 2001. Since that time, she has lived in family foster homes and has resided in the same home since August 2001.
Mindy recently was filmed at the Ellsworth Tennis Center for a “Thursday’s Child” television profile that aired on WABI Channel 5. As part of the filming, Mindy gave news anchor Sharon Pelletier a “beginner’s lesson” in tennis before playing a set with her foster mother.
Mindy is healthy overall, is in eighth grade and is an average student. She has many goals and strengths – becoming an accomplished tennis player, refining her singing voice and learning to play the piano. Her other interests include kayaking, music, dancing, drama, and stage and fashion design. Mindy is creative and athletic and has a wonderful sense of humor.
Mindy is pleasant, friendly and outgoing and is proud of her individual accomplishments in tennis. She has been playing tennis regularly for three years and is considered a very good player. She loves to sing and dance and is working on a set design for a play that third-graders in her school district are presenting.
Mindy participates in individual therapy weekly and will need to continue that therapy. The most appropriate home for Mindy would be in a two-parent family or with a single female parent in a home where she is the youngest child.
Mindy needs a family that can offer her a home environment with consistency, structure, lots of love and nurturing and clear rules and expectations. Mindy has three biological sisters, and it is important for her to have regular contact with them as she matures.
