University of Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix has received commitments from seven high school seniors to attend Maine and play for her team next fall. In addition, back Joanna Fernandez is transferring from the University of Toronto to Maine.

Local recruits who have signed their names on the dotted line are Winslow High forward Beth Lafountain, Skowhegan midfielder Jessie Corson, Fryeburg Academy forward Brooke Anderson of Lovell, and St. Dominic forward Erica Dorso of Farmingdale.

The other recruits are Kara Brady, a midfielder from Eastham, Mass.; Erin Reusch, a midfielder from Salem, N.H.; and Amy Zdrojesky, a midfielder from East Greenville, Pa.

Kix says her 2004-05 recruiting class boasts “athleticism, versatility, and a high level of experience.”

Fernandez was her team’s rookie of the year in 2002 and played for the under-21 Canadian Ontario and Quebec Provincial teams.

Lafountain is a two-year captain who had 17 goals and 10 assists last fall. Corson scored 20 goals and assisted on 11 while earning regional All-America and all-state honors. Dorso had an all-state and all-conference season in which she had 39 goals and 32 assists as a senior en route to 90 and 50, respectively, in her career. Anderson had 83 goals and was a three-time all-state selection.

Ravens honor Rodgerson

Rodgerson compiled a 3.25 cumulative grade point average while majoring in business management with a minor in finance. He was a third-team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection on the men’s basketball team, averaging 14.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 36.6 minutes per game.

The former Hampden Academy standout also shot 89.7 percent from the foul line and led the Ravens in 3-point percentage at .430. Rodgerson owns the school record with 227 3-pointers and ended his career ranked eighth in scoring (1,517 points) and steals (158).
