Phippen collects Wiscasset race Ben Rowe captures PASS event

WISCASSET – John Phippen of Bar Harbor won his first Pro Stock race since July 2001 at Wiscasset Raceway by holding off Newcastle’s Charlie Colby for the win Sunday.

Jeff Taylor of Mercer finished third, fourth was Manchester’s Gene Green, and Shane Long of Strong rounded out the top five.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway

At Scarborough, Seabrook, N.H.’s Rich Eaton won the NASCAR Pro Series race by inches in a three-wide battle for the win on Saturday night.

Alan Tardiff of Lyman was second and Ryan Shepard of Naples finished third, fourth was Old Orchard Beaches’ Bill Rodgers and Steve Carrier of Saco rounded out the top five.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford, Mike Maietta Sr. of South Portland held of his son Mike Jr., also of South Portland, to win his first career Pro Stock race at Oxford Plains.

Scott Robbins of Dixfield finished third, Oxford’s Tim Brackett was fourth, and fifth was Alan Wilson of Hebron.

Winterport Dragway

At Winterport Sunday, Rick Wiseman of Blue captured first place in the Super Pro/Pro Gamblers Race.

Robert Cousins of Carmel finished second in the race and Joe Paluga of Bar Harbor and Tony Warf of Bangor were the two semifinalists.

Ben Rowe wins PASS race

At North Woodstock, N.H., Turner’s Ben Rowe took advantage of a lap 146 restart to slip past race leader Larry Gelinas of Scarborough and he held off a challenge by Gelinas to collect the D-J Equipment 150 Pro All-Stars Series race at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday.

The race was started on April 17 but was suspended after 28 laps due to rain.

It was resumed on Saturday with two-time points champ Rowe on the pole.

Gelinas, who was 10th when the race was resumed, worked his way through the field until taking the lead by passing Rowe on a lap 129 restart.

Gelinas wound up second and Turner’s Mike Rowe, Ben’s father, was third.

Rounding out the top 10 were Farmingdale’s Johnny Clark, Falmouth’s Scott Mulkern, Bangor’s Gary Smith, Farmington’s Cassius Clark, Wayne Helliwell Jr. of Pelham, N.H., Wiscasset’s Scott Chubbuck and Biddeford’s Donnie Whitten.
