Ponies edge past Hawks in 11

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Lefthander Josh Withee pitched five-hit ball for 10 innings and Matt Carey recorded the final three outs in the 11th to give Foxcroft Academy a 2-1 high school baseball victory over Hermon on Monday afternoon.

Josh Pelletier scored the winning run for the Ponies when he singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an infield throwing error. Pelletier had two singles.

Withee struck out eight and walked two while his counterpart, Phil Cayford, also pitched a five-hitter for 10 innings while striking out eight and walking two.

David Wilder’s RBI double accounted for Hermon’s second-inning run but a potential second run was cut down at the plate on a relay throw. Cayford recorded two singles.

At Old Town, Dustin Thomas cranked a three-run home run to help the Red Riots win.

Sean Babin chipped in with three singles for the winners while Ryan Levesque doubled and singled. Tony Raymond and Jon Brothers each added two singles.

Brian Lonko singled twice and doubled for Old Town.

At Lee, Tyler Thompson’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Hyun-Sung Ro with the winning run.

Thompson finished with a double, single, and two RBIs, and Andrew Stevens added two singles. Nate Dow picked up the win with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

Aaron Wilson singled in the Patriots’ two runs in the fifth, and Willy Hinkley and Eric Sobey posted two singles each.

At Lincoln, Dustin Hanscom singled twice and doubled with an RBI as Mattanawcook Academy remained unbeaten.

Steve Whitney added a single, double, and two RBIs for the Lynx, while Tyler Gardner had two singles and an RBI and Jason Murchison hit a solo home run.

Tim McCarthy staked Dexter to a 3-0 first-inning lead with a three-run home run. Sam Bowers added two singles and an RBI, and Mike Martin hit a two-run single.

At Howland, Penobscot Valley scored 12 first-inning runs and cruised to the victory.

Cody Thompson paced the Howlers with two singles, a triple, and two RBIs. Matt Cummings added a triple, single, and three RBIs, and Jake Crosby had a double and two RBIs.

Brian Salley hit an RBI double for Penquis of Milo.

At Thorndike, Andrew Debethune hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to help lead Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield to the win.

Marty Quint and Matt Huff each hit a pair of singles for MCI.

Aaron Lewis doubled and singled to knock in three runs for Mount View. Steve Miles had three singles and Mike Mayer hit two singles.

At Hampden, junior righthander Pat Moran pitched a five-inning two-hitter with 14 strikeouts for the Broncos.

Moran struck out the side in each of the first four innings, and took a perfect game into the fourth when he allowed a walk and a single.

Moran also singled twice with an RBI, while Mike Brown had a solo home run and an RBI single.

At Corinth, Matt Julian hit two singles to knock in four runs and lead Central to the victory.

Mike Julian hit three singles to drive in a run for Central, and Nick Lanchisi and Danny Kane each had two singles.

Mike Burnett had three singles and three RBIs for Piscataquis of Guilford and he also struck out 11. Roy Burdin tripled and singled with three RBIs, and Josh Luellen and Matt Sylvain both had two singles.

At Millinocket, Blake Wessel hit a double to score Lance Gale and later scored on an error to give George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill the narrow win.

Wessel doubled and singled for the Eagles, and Dan Hilts hit a double and struck out six batters and walked one. Collin Henry hit a double and a single.

Matt Barnett had a pair of singles for Stearns.

At Bucksport, Alex Means hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to lead John Bapst to the win.

Means also tripled to have three RBIs on the night for the Crusaders of Bangor. Ryan Roach, Dan Myerowitz, and Rick Hathaway each hit a single.

Matt Allison tripled and singled to score a run for Bucksport, and Wade Hopkins had two singles. Joey Carmichael and Chris Maguire both doubled to knock in a run.

At Ellsworth, Louden Jellison and Andy Berry each hit RBI singles in the fifth inning to help push Ellsworth to the victory.

Corey Smith struck out six and walked four for Ellsworth and Chase Buckingham had two singles.

Andy Pooler hit a pair of singles to drive in a run for Mount Desert Island, and Justin Garver added two singles.

At Stacyville, James Zabierek singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Owen McCarthy had tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh.

Zabierek finished with a double, two singles, and four RBIs. Cameron Cunningham struck out 10 for Katahdin.

Isaac Carney had two doubles, a single, and three RBIs for Washburn, and also struck out 12 batters.

At Calais, Scott Macdonald and Ricky Price each had a double and a single to lead the Blue Devils to the come-from-behind win.

Russ McLean of Calais and Gabe Checker of Narraguagus each pitched a seven-hitter.

Aaron Dublin led Narraguagus of Harrington offensively with a double and a single.

At East Machias, Jason Labonte hit a double and two singles to drive in three runs and help push Washington Academy to the win.

James Ramsdell hit two singles and a double for the Raiders, and Jeff Ramsdell had three singles with three RBIs. Steven Colbeth hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Mark Fields added a solo blast in the second inning.

Dylan Johnson, A.J. Pennarty, and Trevor Renwick each singled for Sumner of East Sullivan.

At Dyer Brook, Jeff Boutilier’s three-run homer in the first inning and Evan McGary’s two-run double in the second were the key blows as the Warriors jumped out to a 15-0 lead and cruised past the Eagles.

Griffin Hardy posted three singles, a double, and an RBI; McGary added a single to his double; and Travis Brooker and Zack Austin added two singles each.

Brooker, Rusty Toothaker, Hardy, and Mike Lopez combined to pitch a one-hitter.

Gabe Hrynick singled in the third for Limestone/Maine School for Science and Mathematics.
