Bangor police summoned a man with a suspended license after he allegedly hit a van while making a U-turn on Broadway on Monday evening.
Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 6 p.m. she went to Broadway near Dairy Queen for a traffic accident. Libby said she found a green van in the middle of the road. The driver and passenger in the van said they were waiting to turn into Dairy Queen when a white car made a U-turn, cutting the van off and colliding with its front end. The car’s driver reportedly made an obscene gesture to those in the van as he drove away.
Libby said a witness told her the car was a white Chevrolet Cavalier. The witness also had recorded the car’s license plate number. The witness agreed with the occupants of the van that the driver was a man.
Libby went to the registered owner’s Finson Road home, who told Libby the car belonged to her brother-in-law, Eugene Horn, 28, of Bangor. She explained that she registered the car for him as a favor.
Libby went to Horn’s Moosehead Boulevard residence. She found the car there, with damage on its left door. Horn and a woman also living at the house told Libby that the woman was driving the car at the time, but when Libby said she had witnesses, the woman admitted that she hadn’t driven the car.
Dispatch informed Libby that Horn’s license was suspended. He was summoned for operating after suspension and leaving the scene of an accident.
