ORLAND – A 31-year-old Bucksport man was in serious condition Wednesday after he was injured in an ATV accident Tuesday night.

Mark Wortham was traveling on the Don Fish Trail near the Craig Brook Fish Hatchery in Orland when the accident occurred, according to Alan Gillis of the Maine Warden Service.

Details of the accident were still sketchy, Gillis said. Wortham and a group of three other riders had just come off Great Pond Mountain and were traveling down the Don Fish Trail toward the fish hatchery at about 9 p.m. Wortham was in the lead and had pulled ahead and out of sight of his companions.

When they caught up with him, his ATV had struck a tree and Wortham was lying on the ground.

Wortham was taken initially to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where a spokesperson said his condition was listed as serious Wednesday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation.
