Conference on prosperity

Penquis Community Action Program will present its third annual Economic Prosperity for Everyone Conference, “Preparing Youth for Prosperity,” June 8 at the G. Clifton Eames Center, Bangor Savings Bank.

The keynote speaker will be John Dorrer, deputy director for work force programs at the National Center on Education and the Economy.

Yellow Light Breen, vice president and general counsel of Bangor Savings Bank, will be the luncheon speaker. Panelists and workshop presenters will represent the fields of education, business, finance, community and work force development.

Bank promotion

Merrill Merchants Bank has announced the promotion of Lawrence M. Napoleone to senior vice president and senior trust and investment officer.

Napoleone, who joined the bank in 2002, will assume overall responsibility for management of the trust and investment services department, including administration and operations, and will continue to serve as the bank’s senior investment officer. He also will represent the department as a member of the bank’s senior management team.

Napoleone brings 15 years of corporate and financial services experience to his new position, including financial planning, investment advisory and portfolio management. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine and is a certified financial planner. Napoleone has served on many community and charitable boards and currently is chairman of the trustee committee for the Good Samaritan Agency. He resides in Glenburn with his wife and two children.

Affordable housing seminar

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association will serve as host for the seminar, Effective Tools for Creating Affordable Housing, 9 a.m.-noon Thurdsday, June 3, at the Balck Bear Inn & Conference Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The seminar will focus on federal, state and local financial incentives to stimulate the development of affordable housing, and on the low-income housing tax credit.

The Maine State Housing Authority will give a presentation about the key housing issues in Bangor, and the impact of affordable housing on economic development. A panel discussion will follow.

Winterport

New convenience store

R.H. Foster Energy LLC, a Maine company, has announced that the grand opening of the Winterport On the Run convenience store will be held Friday, May 14.

Town Manager Leo LaChance will perform the honorary ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m.

Elements of the architectural design were chosen to benefit the customers and the community. The gas pumps were moved to allow for front parking. Also, a grassy area and picnic tables were added to the riverfront, enabling customers to enjoy the view.

Winterport’s store is R.H. Foster’s fifth On the Run franchise, with two more planned for Greater Bangor this year.

Daffodil Days

Hannaford and independent Shop ‘n Save stores across New England collected nearly $50,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days campaign.

In Maine, where the Daffodil Days promotion has been in place for years, more than $25,000 was collected.
