DANFORTH – The Washburn Beavers scored 23 runs in two games Wednesday to earn a sweep of their high school softball doubleheader against East Grand.
The Beavers won the opener 8-1 and took the second game 15-8.
In the first game, Amber Palmer hit a two-run single and Chelsea Fitzherbert a two-run double to spark a seven-run third inning for Washburn.
Casey Maynard and Tabitha Blakney added two singles each for the winners. Elishia Dodge doubled and singled for the Vikings of Danforth.
In the second game, Anna Bartlett and Kristen Carter each hit two-run singles during an eight-run burst in the second inning for the Beavers.
Palmer and Maynard each had two singles for Washburn. Allie McKay led East Grand with two singles and a triple while Dodge doubled and singled.

At Fort Fairfield, Melissa Bubar had two singles, a triple and five RBIs to pace the Tigers to victory.

Renee Jordan singled with two outs in the seventh to break up the no-hitter.
