PORTLAND – The Portland Sea Dogs have scheduled a press conference today and may announce that Boston Red Sox star Nomar Garciaparra will be assigned to the Sea Dogs for a rehabilitation assignment.

Garciaparra has been sidelined since spring training with a strained Achilles’ tendon but has been working out at Fenway Park in Boston. The all-star shortstop was scheduled for more workouts at Fenway on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The team was then expected to make a decision on the next step in his rehab.

The Sea Dogs, Boston’s Double A affiliate, have scheduled the press conference for 4 p.m. at Hadlock Field. Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein and director of player of development Ben Cherington are attending along with Sea Dogs owner Dan Burke and GM Charlie Eshbach.
