Coming out of coastal Maine, Pushing Zero is an earnest rock outfit with a surprisingly polished original sound that is sure to please fans of radio rock in the vein of bands like Creed and Soundgarden.
Formed less than a year a ago, the band – singer, songwriter and guitarist (and Stockton Springs chiropractor) George Skala, bassist Andrew Pelczar and drummer Jason Loeb – has already recorded and released a five-song debut EP, “The Chosen.”
A little over a week ago, the band added Adam Hauk of Swanville as lead guitarist and backing vocalist.
Pushing Zero has a busy summer season lined up playing dates in and out of state, including a trip all the way to Rowland, Pa., to play June 5 at the second annual Acoustic Revival Festival.
But in the near future (this weekend), you can check out Pushing Zero performing a more stripped-down acoustic set from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in the cafe at Borders, Music & Cafe by the Bangor Mall.
It’s not my favorite venue for live music, what with the fluorescent lights, distracting hum of commerce and all, but the Borders folks are friendly, and the cafe part of the store is fairly comfortable.
