EDDINGTON – A 15-year-old girl and her mother were bitten by their Rottweiler on Friday afternoon at their home on Route 9 in Eddington.

Britnay Umbro, 15, was playing with the dog when he bit her in the face and later bit her mother, Marie Umbro, in the hand, according to Maine State Police Trooper Daniel Ryan.

The mother and daughter called paramedics because the dog was blocking the door and they were scared to leave the house, Ryan said. They later left by private vehicle and went to a local hospital. No medical information was available.

The dog was tested for rabies and later euthanized, according to Animal Control Officer Cindy Dunton. The family had obtained the dog earlier that week.

Correction: A story published Saturday in the Final edition about an Eddington mother and daughter bitten by a dog misspelled the daughter’s name. The correct spelling is Brittany Umbro.
