Bangor Elks Lodge gives $32,000 in scholarships

BANGOR – Bangor Lodge 244 of Elks held its annual scholarship recognition award night on May 6.

Fifty-four seniors from seven area high schools and their parents were treated to a banquet. The youths received scholarships ranging from $400 to $1,000, with a total of $32,000 being awarded.

Schools represented were Bangor, Brewer, John Bapst, Bangor Christian, Hampden, Hermon and Central High of Corinth.

Half of the dollars awarded came from the Phil Jameson Golf Tournament. The lodge-sponsored tournament is held each September in memory of Jameson, who was a local athlete and a Bangor Elk. Various fund-raisers provided the remainder of the money.

The Bangor Elks Lodge has played a role in the community for 111 years, with more than 700 members helping those less fortunate. Veterans, youth groups and the needy are high priorities in the organization’s partnership with Greater Bangor.

. Brewer: Kristy Baker, Amy Freeman, Justin Hardy, Eric Young.

. Central: Shawna Bell, Jenna Dauphinee, Megan Grant.

. Hampden: Jessica Cort, Stefanie Deprey, Christine Leighton, Jeremy Yehle.

. Hermon: Brett Danforth, Shannon Fessenden, Thomas McGown.

. John Bapst: Karen Kusnierz, Keith Nason, Julia Sleeper, Megan Webster.

Recipients of Most Valuable Student scholarships were:
