Round Table member

Prudential Financial Inc. has announced that Ervin Dumond of Orrington, financial planner with the Bangor Agency of the Prudential Insurance Company of America, located at 900A Hammond St., has been named a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, one of the life insurance industry’s most prestigious organizations.

Round Table life membership is based on a career filled with excellence in customer sales and service. Only a small percentage of life insurance representatives are named life members.

Founded in 1927, the Round Table organization is an independent association of approximately 28,000 of the world’s best insurance and investment financial services professionals who have met strict ethical and professional requirements. The organization is internationally recognized and its members represent 68 nations and territories and some 475 life insurance companies.

Senior vice president

Bangor Savings Bank has announced that James MacLeod of Bangor has joined the bank as senior vice president and senior trust officer, 99 Franklin St.

MacLeod brings 17 years’ experience in delivering comprehensive wealth management, financial planning and trust and estate administration services. Having practiced law and worked at other financial institutions for almost 10 years, MacLeod’s background and experience is well suited for the Trust and Investment Management Group customers at Bangor Savings Bank.

MacLeod is a graduate of the University of Maine, Franklin Pierce Law Center and Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the Maine and New Hampshire Bar associations, is a certified financial planner, and a certified trust and financial advisor.

Active in the community, MacLeod is a board member of Penobscot Theatre.

Frankfort

Glassworks grand opening

Frankfort Glassworks will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at 28 North Searsport Road. A gift and craft gallery, the shop will offer dichroic glass jewelry, accessories and dishes created by co-owner Nancy Tang, and glasswork from around the world and from Maine and New England artists.

The gallery is located in the newly renovated milking shed attached to the barn. The location also is the home of Glass Orchids, Tang’s glass studio and school, and UgotGlass, which sells fusing supplies, glass and precious metal clay.

Hampden

Business of the Year

The Hampden Business Association will meet this month to name the town’s Business of the Year. This year’s winners are Buzz and Herbert Frost of Frost’s Garage, who were selected for their outstanding contributions to Hampden and the local business community.

Established in 1934 by Ivan A. Frost Sr., Frost’s Garage has provided Hampden with friendly and reliable service for 70 years. Brothers and co-owners Buzz and Herbert Frost run the business with the help of Buzz’s wife, Ruth, and his son, Jeff.

Buzz and Herbert Frost are involved in Hampden’s Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Children’s Day, Kiwanis and the snowmobile club. Herb Frost is a trustee of Hampden Historical Society and has been credited with being the driving force behind renovations to the Masonic Hall and the building of the Laura Hoit pool.

The Hampden Business Association will hold its fourth annual dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Lucerne Inn. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Those interested in attending the dinner should call Patty Hasseltine, 989-7784.

Orono

Development awards

The Maine Technology Institute recently approved development awards for 11 projects totaling approximately $2.75 million. More than 50 percent of the proposals were funded.

A local award recipient, Intelligent Spatial Technologies in Orono, will conduct beta testing of “Osprey,” an intelligent mapping system that will provide an innovative new way to access and manage spatial data in the field.

The institute was created by the Legislature in 1999 to encourage, promote, stimulate and support research and development activity leading to the commercialization of new products and services in the state’s technology-intensive industrial sectors.

Programs are designed to enhance the competitive position of those sectors and increase the likelihood that one or more of the sectors will support clusters of industrial activity and create new jobs.
