Milford man faces charges after borrowing car

A Milford man reportedly borrowed a Bangor girl’s car and failed to return it Tuesday evening.

Bangor police Officer Douglas Moore reported that at about 7 p.m. a woman called police, saying her 16-year-old daughter had lent her blue 1997 Saturn to Jonathan Spinney, 19, of Milford. The girl told Spinney that if the car was not back by 5:30 p.m., she would call police. Spinney assured her the car would be back.

The car was not back by 5:30 p.m.

Officer Shawn Green told Moore he was familiar with Spinney. They went to a house where Spinney was believed to be staying, but a man there said Spinney had left on foot. The officers found the car nearby and contacted its owner.

Moore said Spinney will be charged with violation of condition of release and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

A Plymouth man was charged with theft after he allegedly stole razor blades and deodorant from Wal-Mart on Tuesday night.

Officer Brad Johnston reported that at about 8:40 p.m. he went to the department store for a shoplifting complaint. A security worker said he saw Jonathan Teeney, 19, of Plymouth conceal the Stanley utility blades in his pants pocket and the Old Spice deodorant in his sweat-shirt pocket, then leave the store.

The total price of the items was $5.

Bangor police arrested a man Tuesday night after he allegedly ate hot sausage and beef jerky in a convenience store without paying.

Officer Robert Hutchings reported that at about 9:30 p.m. he went to the Mobil One Stop on State Street where an intoxicated man was “acting bizarre.”

Hutchings said the man, pointed out by the clerk, was visibly intoxicated and was holding a toilet paper roll. When Hutchings asked the man, later identified as Leroy Knox, 53, of Bangor, if he had any store property in his pockets, he became agitated and defensive.

Hutchings said the clerk told him Knox had eaten part of a package of beef jerky, throwing the wrapper on the floor. He also consumed a hot sausage, throwing its wrapper on the floor, the clerk said.

Hutchings arrested Knox. Though Knox protested that he’d done nothing wrong and challenged Hutchings to prove the accusations, he was charged with theft and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A Brewer city employee called police Wednesday afternoon after seeing two men apparently smoking marijuana in the company of a toddler.

Brewer police Officer Ed Willey reported that at about half past noon a parks and recreation worker noticed two men and a small child walking toward the public pool, which was closed.

The employee called police after seeing one man light something, take two puffs, then hand it to the other man.

Officers Ed Willey and Tony Pinette found the men near the Brewer Auditorium, Willey said, and asked to speak to them. Pinette found drug paraphernalia and a usable amount of marijuana on one of them, identified as Ryan Balfe, 24, of Bangor, Willey said.

Police notified the Department of Human Services of the incident.
