Etna man arrested on charge of choking woman

An Etna man was arrested after he allegedly choked a woman Wednesday night in Brewer.

Brewer police Officer Jeremy Upham reported that at about 9:30 p.m. he responded to an assault complaint on North Main Street. He found a man and woman in the downtown area. The man, George Lawson, 35, of Etna, told Upham he and the woman had just been arguing.

Upham said a witness told him Lawson had choked the woman and that they had been pushing each other. The woman was uncooperative, Upham said.

Upham arrested Lawson and charged him with assault.

Bangor police arrested a man from Fort Drum, N.Y., early Thursday after he allegedly refused to stop shouting obscenities.

Officer James Dearing reported that at about 1 a.m. he and Officers Douglas Moore and Brandon Vafiades went to the Waterfront Bar and Grill where a fight was reported. Passers-by pointed out Matthew Chadbourne, 25, as one of those involved.

Dearing said that Chadbourne was belligerent and yelling obscenities at those around him. When Dearing told Chadbourne to quiet down, he did so and went to a taxi, but started yelling again. Dearing told Chadbourne to quiet down or be arrested.

As the taxi pulled away, Dearing said, Chadbourne stuck his head out the window and yelled more obscenities. Dearing stopped the taxi, pulled Chadbourne out, and arrested him on a charge of disorderly conduct. Dearing said that Chadbourne was placed in a holding cell at Penobscot County Jail.

Veazie police arrested a man Thursday afternoon after stopping his truck for loud exhaust.

Officer Mike Adams reported that at about 4 p.m. he stopped a white truck on State Street that had loud exhaust and visible emissions. The driver, Lorne Bridges, 38, of Veazie, had all his paperwork except an insurance card. Adams said dispatch informed him that Bridges’ license was suspended for failure to file proof of insurance.

Adams arrested Bridges on a charge of operating after suspension. A search of the truck produced a marijuana pipe hidden under a piece of carpet beneath the driver’s seat, Adams said.

At Penobscot County Jail, Bridges also was charged with possession of a suspended driver’s license, sale and use of drug paraphernalia and failure to provide evidence of insurance.
