Leighton rolls to early lead, takes Pepsi 150 win

THOMPSON, Conn. – Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, N.H. took the lead 20 laps into the race when Brian Hoar crashed and held off defending two-time Busch North series points champion Andy Santerre of Cherryfield to win the Pepsi Racing 150 at Thompson International Speedway Saturday.

Santerre spun in turn three while challenging for the lead with five laps left and wound up finishing ninth.

Mike Stefanik was second with Dave Dion, Dale Quarterley and Scarborough’s Ryan Moore rounding out the top five.

Moore was the pole-sitter.

Yarmouth’s Billy Penfold finished 13th and Kelly Moore, Ryan’s father, finished 25th.

Gordon wins Friday PASS race

At Lee, N.H., Strong’s Tracy Gordon survived a lap-21 wreck, took the lead from Farmingdale’s Johnny Clark with six laps to go and won the Pro All-Stars Series tour’s American Car Care Centers 150 at Lee USA Speedway Friday night.

Clark was second with GeGe Gravel of Groton, Mass., Bangor’s Gary Smith and Turner’s Ben Rowe completing the top five.

Falmouth’s Scott Mulkern and Turner’s Mike Rowe were the other Maine finishers in the top 10 as Mulkern wound up sixth and Rowe was ninth.

Several races rained out

Races at Scarborough’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Wiscasset Raceway, Unity Raceway, Speedway 95 in Hermon and Winterport Dragway were all rained out this weekend.

Unity Raceway will have two Pro Stock and two Super Sport features next Saturday in addition to the regular racing card and Wiscasset will double up with racing on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

The other tracks will race at their normal times.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford Sunday, 17-year-old Vanna Brackett of Oxford took the lead from Norway’s Tina Springer with two laps to go and cruised to the win in the Ladies Division.

Pam Morgan of Minot finished third, Deanna Bisbee of South Paris was fourth, and Lewiston’s Christina Spaulding rounded out the top five.

Bullwinkle Raceway

At Greenville Junction, Corey Moore of Madison held off Mike Ledger of Madison to win the Little Enduro race on Saturday.

Dover-Foxcroft’s Jim Labenselor finished third, fourth was Lynwood Ledger of Norridgewock and Nick Hanson of Greenville finished fifth.
