Hampden Academy
HAMPDEN – Hampden Academy has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2004. Graduation exercises will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Skehan Center, Hampden Academy.
Amelia Lynn Potvin, daughter of Connie and Paul Potvin of Hampden, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2004. She will attend Dartmouth College in the fall.
She participated in the junior classical league as an officer for two years and also served as national secretary, has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years and a member of the math team.
Potvin participated in cross country, indoor track and tennis. She has been a student volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.
Cheryl Lynn Morris, daughter of Charles and Vickie Morris of Winterport, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2004. She will attend Babson College in the fall.
She participated in the mock trial team, has been a member of the Key Club, the H Club and a member of the National Honor Society for two years. She was a Dirigo Girls State representative and attended Maine Scholars Day. Morris participated in basketball and softball.
Honor essayist Andrew George Steltzer, son of Edward and Leslie Steltzer of Hampden, will attend Bowdoin College in the fall. He has been a member of the junior classical league and civil rights team and is a member of the National Honor Society. He was on the ski team. He received an outstanding service award for equestrian camp counselor and has been a respite counselor at autism retreat.
Penobscot Valley High
HOWLAND – Honor parts for the Class of 2004 at Penobscot Valley High School have been announced. Class night exercises will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, and commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, in the George Sereyko Memorial Gymnasium.
Chelsi Snow, daughter of Lloyd and Jean Snow of West Enfield, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2004. She will attend the University of Maine, studying molecular-cellular biology.
Snow has participated in the National Honor Society, civil rights team, drama club, chorus, math team and peer helpers. She has received the UM Scholars Achievement Award and the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, and she is the Voice of Democracy School and Region Winner and a four-year honors banquet recipient.
Sarah Colbath, daughter of Randy and Tami Colbath of Howland, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2004. She will attend the School for Film and Television in New York City, studying acting.
She participated in the National Honor Society, was a Girls State delegate and took part in soccer, basketball and softball. She has received the University of Rochester Humanities and Social Sciences Award and is a four-year honors banquet recipient.
Also receiving honor parts are:
. First honor essayist, Nicholas Ware, son of Michael and Lisa Ware of Passadumkeag. He will attend Bates College, studying biological chemistry. He has received the Williams College Book Award. Also, poems of his have been accepted to Creative Communications and JMG’s Vision Poetry Book. He was a Boys State delegate and the Maine Principals’ Award recipient.
He has participated in class council, math team, National Honor Society, gifted talented program, vision committee, Penobscot Valley Save our School, soccer, basketball and baseball.
. Second honor essayist, Nancy Hallett, daughter of Bruce and Nancy Hallett of Howland, will attend the University of Maine at Farmington, studying pharmaceuticals. She has received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award and is a Dirigo Girls State delegate.
She participated in soccer, basketball, softball, cross country, math team and orchestra.
. Third honor essayist, Kylie McGinn, daughter of Jeff and Pam McGinn of West Enfield, will attend Pierre’s School of Cosmetology in Bangor. She received the youth leadership award.
She has participated in student council, National Honor Society, Voice of Democracy, class council, soccer, softball and basketball, and she was the class historian.
