Hampden, Newburgh support Little League

To the citizens of Hampden and Newburgh:

On Saturday, May 1, Hampden-Newburgh Little League conducted its annual Field and Tag Day to formally begin the Little League season. For the Tag Day segment, moms and dads caravan their Little Leaguers around the streets of Hampden to solicit support for the league and the opportunity for their children to play organized baseball.

This portion of the day went off without a hitch and I understand we had our most successful day ever! These funds pay for the uniforms, balls, gear, and other expenses associated with running the league. Thanks so much for those who supported this opportunity for our kids to play baseball, and thanks, also, for the droves of parents who came out and volunteered their time to safely drive and oversee our kids while they solicited the residents of Hampden and Newburgh.

I would be remiss if I didn’t address the other portion of the day. Field Day has evolved so that we as a league could upgrade the facilities and grounds that our kids play on. It was overwhelming to witness the participation for Field Day as well!

Several people volunteered their heavy equipment, energy, expertise, tools, and other supplies to see that the numerous jobs were completed in a professional way. The concession hut was also cleaned and fully operational as well.

Some people even brought lunches for the volunteers, knowing full well that the day was just half over because of the round robin tournament in the afternoon. It was personally very gratifying to witness the amount of participation and pride by all of the coaches, parents, players and even former players who helped during the day.

Needless to say, the day was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who came out in support of our league.

In a time where we often hear negative media attention, people in Hampden and Newburgh ought to be proud by the genuine sense of community and pride in our Little League organization. Thanks for taking part… your hard work is making a difference!
