BANGOR – The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed pitchers Lance Calmus and Ernie Miller along with outfielder Jake Whitesides and infielder Shin Uchino to complete their opening-day roster.

Calmus, a 6-foot-5 righthander, pitched for the Atlantic City Surf of the Atlantic League last year, going 2-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 34 appearances. The veteran was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Cleveland Indians in 1996 and played in that organization for three years, reaching Double-A Akron in 1999.

Miller, a lefty, is a former Triple-A pitcher who was taken by the Anaheim Angels in the 24th round of the 1997 draft and reached Triple A Edmonton in 2000, making one appearance, giving up just one hit and a run in 3 1/3 innings. He has not pitched professionally since his appearance in Edmonton.

Whitesides spent last season as a member of the Mid-Missouri Mavericks of the Frontier League where he hit .298 with four home runs, 49 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. A fifth-round pick of the Houston Astros in 2000, Whitesides finished the 2003 season first in the Frontier League in triples (11), second in runs (68), third in extra base hits (38), third in doubles (23) and 10th in batting average.
