BANGOR – Steven Blake of Glenburn, a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 in Brewer, will be honored at an Eagle Scout ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Bangor Baptist Church.

To earn Scouting’s highest award, Blake earned 22 merit badges – among them Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid and Personal Management. He also served as a leader in his troop and completed a major community service project.

Blake’s project was done at Bangor Baptist Church and Bangor Christian Schools. He coordinated a project that placed park benches and a rock garden, and completed the area around the memorial stone for the Emma Carson Memorial Playground.

Blake, the son of Michael and Susan Blake of Glenburn and grandson of Janice Blake and Barbara Rogers, has been a member of Troop 1 – chartered to First Congregational Church in Brewer – since 1998. He has served the troop as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster, chaplain aide and junior assistant scoutmaster.

At age 16, Blake is a senior at Bangor Christian Schools, having completed high school in three years. He is salutatorian of his class and will attend the University of Maine in the civil engineering department and the Honors College. He has been awarded a Top Scholar Award by UM as well as a civil engineering scholarship.
