Maine police to get bulletproof-vest funds

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded more than $118,000 to help state, county and local police in Maine buy bulletproof vests, according to U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

“This federal funding is critical to our continuing efforts to fully equip law enforcement officials who risk their lives to serve and protect our communities,” said Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.

Among area jurisdictions to receive grants are:
