BANGOR – Maine Public Radio was honored with 10 awards by the Maine Associated Press Broadcasters Association during their annual awards ceremony in Bangor recently.

For the seventh time since 1994, Maine Public Radio took home the top award: Station of the Year. Members of its news staff also accepted first place accolades in four other categories: continuing coverage, public affairs, enterprise and sports.

The contest was open to all Associated Press member radio and television stations licensed in Maine for pieces produced in 2003. Maine Public Radio won the following awards:

. Station of the Year, first, Maine Public Radio news staff.

. Public affairs, first, Susan Chisholm, Millinocket; second, Barbara Cariddi, Port Clyde.

. Continuing coverage, first, Susan Chisholm, New Sweden church poisoning.

. Enterprise, first, Susan Chisholm, Dennis Dechaine.

. Sports, first, Susan Chisholm, Can Am dog race in northern Maine.

. Election, second, Maine Public Radio news staff.

. Medical reporting, second, Susan Chisholm, poison control center.

. Feature, second, Susan Chisholm, mushroom guy.

. Spot news, third, Susan Chisholm, flooding coverage.
