HERMON – Morita’s School of Dance competed recently in Manchester, N.H., at the Sophisticated Dance Competition. Forty-four dancers, ages 9 to 22, performed 10 entries, ranging from solo to production presentations.
Junior I dancers earned a gold award for a tap-dance number, “Alabama Choo Choo.” Junior II dancers earned a high silver award for a jazz number, “Neutron Dance.”
Senior dancers earned gold awards for a hip-hop entry, “I’m Good”; a musical theater entry, “Raggedy Ann and Andy”; and a tap entry, “Sing, Sing, Sing.” The 13 dancers in “Sing, Sing, Sing” also were chosen to be on the Sophisticated Dance Team at the national convention in New Jersey in July. “I’m Good” received the best formation award and “Sing, Sing, Sing” received the best line award.
Members of the senior class choreographed their own routines and won the following:
. Duet, Gabrielle Ingerson and Rhiannon Ingerson, high silver.
. Duet, Nichole Harvey and Denise Knowles, gold.
. Solo, Sarah Sennet, gold.
. Small group, tap, Melody Hammond, Nichole Harvey, Denise Knowles and Elle Winchester, high gold.
Dancers in the performance group are from Bangor, Bucksport, Carmel, Hampden, Hermon, Levant, Lincoln and Stetson.
Senior line dancers are Kaitlyn DeLuck, Sarah Fratini, Melody Hammond, Nichole Harvey, Effie Harding, Gabrielle Ingerson, Rhiannon Ingerson, Denise Knowles, Stephanie Knowles, Maelyn Martin, Casee O’Rourke, Christen Ripa, Sarah Sennet and Elle Winchester.
Junior I dancers are Brooke Anderson, Mackenzie Beyer, Rebecca Boyce, Taylor Buck, Brooke Deschaine, Brianne Duley, Traci Dunn, Katie Feeney, Sarah Leonard, Lindsey Marsh, Amber Morris, Roxanne Pitcher, Morgan Robinson, Brianna Savoy and Mikayla Treadwell.
Junior II dancers are Amy Bemis, Jackie Cook, Cortney Davis, Rebecca Coolong, Tera Cropley, Meagan Dearborn, Jaimie Dearborn, Megan Deschaine, Alex Fitzgerald, Sarah Fucillo, Amanda Harvey, Michael McLaughlin, Lexi Marceron, Rachel Surrette and Jamie Treadwell.
The dancers who performed in the Sophisticated Dance Competition also performed in the Morita’s School of Dance 36th annual production, “Dancing Around the World,” on May 23, at Bangor High School’s Peakes Auditorium. Call 848-5083 for information on Morita’s School of Dance.
