ROCKLAND – The city recently received notice from the state Department of Economic and Community Development that it has been awarded a $44,000 Community Development Block Grant to assist Rockland-based Coastal Transportation Inc.

The money will be used to buy four passenger wagon-style vehicles to transport the elderly in the midcoast. Coastal Transportation Inc. will provide $11,000 in matching funds.

Since December, the city has received more than $800,000 in grants from the Department of Economic and Community Development for storm water-sewer separation, apartment housing rehabilitation, small-business assistance, waterfront planning, and regional housing planning.
