BELFAST – Friends of Midcoast Maine will present three Smart Growth awards at its annual meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Boat House.

Awards will be presented to Chase’s Daily restaurant in Belfast, Quarry Hill development in Camden, and the city of Belfast. Each winner exemplifies the principles of smart growth, the group said.

State Rep. John Piotti, D-Unity, will present the keynote speech on “How can smart growth work in my town? Lessons from Unity, Maine,” and will highlight his 15 years as a local planner and community developer.

Friends of Midcoast Maine is a nonprofit group that works for what it considers to be sensible development in the midcoast region.

Preregistration for the annual meeting is requested. There is a $10 fee for members and a $15 fee for nonmembers. For information, call 236-1077.
