Old Town High School

OLD TOWN – Honor parts have been announced for the Class of 2004. Graduation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, in the MacKenzie Gymnasium at Old Town High School.

Michael Boucouvalas, son of Steven and Janet Boucouvalas of Old Town, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2004. He has a full scholarship to attend any campus of the University of Maine. He received the Maine Principals’ Association Award and earned an academic letter.

Boucouvalas was a member of the varsity basketball and tennis teams and received the Big East Conference All-Academic Team Award in basketball.

Michael Swett, son of Paul and Nancy Swett of Old Town, has been named the salutatorian for the Class of 2004. He will attend the University of Maine to study civil and environmental engineering.

He received the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, the Williams College Book Award for academic excellence, Renaissance Award for outstanding achievement in history, and the Citizenship Award. He was chosen as a most promising scholar and a Maine scholar, and he also earned his academic letter.

Swett was a National Merit Commended Student and a Dirigo Boys State delegate. He was captain of the math team, was involved in the University of Maine’s Aspirations Incentive Program, the envirothon team, the Junior Engineering Technical Society team, chess team, and National Honor Society.

He was captain of the golf team and a member of the art club, and received an art achievement award, sculpture award and the computer application award. His artwork was selected for the UMMA Vincent A. Hartgen Traveling Exhibition.

Other essay speakers include Daniel Thornton, son of Michael and Ann Thornton of Milford. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study secondary education. He was a member of the cross-country team and captain of the swim team. He is president of the senior class.

Nicholas Noonan is the son of Michael and Judith Noonan of Old Town. He plans to attend Berklee School of Music.

During his high school career, he was involved in soccer, cross country, swimming, track, jazz ensemble, concert band and band all-states. He also received an academic letter.

Piscataquis Community High School

GUILFORD – Elizabeth Joy Kelly, daughter of David and Kathleen Kelly of Sangerville, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2004. She will attend Philadelphia Biblical University to study music education with a concentration in voice.

She has played field hockey for four years, is vice president of the National Honor Society, and serves as class president and student council vice president. She attended the 2003 Dirigo Girls State at Husson College and spent a month in Scotland with Biblical Ministries Worldwide.

For the last six years she has studied piano, for four years has accompanied the Dexter Regional high School musicals and serves as pianist at the Grace Bible Church.

Nathan Cookson, son of Alston and Robin Cookson of Cambridge, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2004. He plans to attend the University of Maine to study pre-pharmacy for two years, followed by four years at pharmaceutical college in Boston, Mass.
