OLD TOWN – Brody J. Winn, 13, of Old Town participated Tuesday in Round One of the 2004 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The first round was a 25-word written test. The results of the test will be announced at 12:20 p.m. today after the competition’s first oral round of the competition.

Spellers then will be given new words to spell in the three remaining oral rounds and will be eliminated for words spelled incorrectly.

Winn is a seventh-grader at J.A. Leonard Middle School. He is an honor student and a member of the concert and symphonic bands.
