Orono High School
ORONO – Lura Raymond, Matt Whorton and Ryan Tipping-Spitz have been selected by their classmates to be student speakers at the commencement activities at Orono High School.
Raymond, daughter of John Raymond and the late Joleen Fitzpatrick Raymond, will give the welcome address at the June 13 graduation. She will attend the University of Maine.
She has participated in band, cabaret, yearbook, Girls State and school plays. She has been a member of the drama club, French club, student council, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and the soccer team.
Raymond is the recipient of academic awards including the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, a top student book award in French, Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizen Award and the MPA Leadership Award. She is vice president of the senior class. In May, she was recognized at the opening ceremonies of the Relay for Life cancer walk for her years of dedication.
Whorton, son of Myra and Charles Whorton, will deliver the farewell address. He will attend Gettysburg College.
He is president of the student council and organizer of the school’s annual blood drive. He is a member of the yearbook staff, French club, National Honor Society, swim team and track team, and he participated in Boys State.
Tipping-Spitz, son of Lenore Tipping and Thomas Spitz, will speak at the June 6 baccalaureate. He will attend Acadia University.
He participated in band, pep band, cabaret, musicals, senior play and Boys State. He is a member of the newspaper staff, drama club, French club and golf team, and he is treasurer of the student council. He has been the recipient of a top student book award and is president of the National Honor Society.
