BANGOR – The Bangor Region Arts & Cultural Council and the Bangor Public Library will present the second annual Arts on the Green Festival in downtown Bangor 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Lady Liberty and Hannibal Hamlin parks, which extend along Kenduskeag Stream from Franklin to State streets.
Food vendors will be on site and food also will be available at nearby downtown restaurants.
Participating artists include D.C. Turmosa, who will demonstrate how to make wire wrap jewelry, and Lisa Raven, who will teach the art of making stained glass.
Those interested will be able to paint on silk with Linda Stearns and learn how to make hand embroidery stitches with Tree Heckler.
The Maine Discovery Museum will show how to make creative newspaper hats and Wendy Libby will show how to decorate sun visors.
Visitors can discover unique shapes in driftwood, which will be ready to paint with Ann Davis, or add to the graffiti that will be created to commemorate the day.
The Bangor Symphony’s Instrument Petting Zoo also will be on hand in the afternoon, giving aspiring musicians a chance to discover hidden talents.
Teens from Bangor High School’s Key Club will volunteer for the day, assisting artists and helping organizers.
Music entertainment in front of the Lady Liberty statue will begin with the Bangor Fiddlers, followed by the Queen City Big Band, St. Huckleberry’s Celtic-tinged folk band, folk music of Kenai Rain and the West Bay String Band.
The University of Maine Museum of Art, adjacent to the Arts on the Green Festival, will provide tours of the museum at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with reduced admission for Arts on the Green attendees.
