Real estate sales in Maine were up a record 30.78 percent in April over the same month last year, according to statistics compiled by the Maine Real Estate Information System.

A total of 1,194 homes were sold in April 2004. The average sales price, $169,000, represented a 12.97 increase over last year.

Over the same span, national real estate sales climbed by 15 percent, with the average price of a home at $176,000.
