Calais High School
CALAIS – Calais High School Principal Chris Johnson has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2004. Graduation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the Calais High School.
Anav Silverman, daughter of Harold and Rachel Silverman of Calais, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2004. In the fall she will fulfill her duties for national service in Israel before continuing her education at a university.
She has participated in the student council, academic decathlon and National Honor Society. She was secretary for Eastern Region Student Council. She earned a silver medal in speech at the 2004 Maine Academic Decathlon and is president of the Calais Chapter of the National Honor Society. She is a member of the tennis team, concert band and the school pep band.
Silverman has been a correspondent for the Downeast Times and is employed by the Calais IGA.
Ashlee Scott, daughter of Suzette and Floyd Scott of Calais, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2004.
She has been involved with the Jobs for Maine Graduates program and was the recipient of its career association award.
Scott played on the school’s tennis team for two years. She is enrolled in the child care program at the St. Croix Technical Center and competed in the VICA competition. She is a crew member at McDonalds, has worked for the Washington County Community College Daycare and PAWS Animal Shelter.
Russell McLean, son of Jeff and Leah McLean of Calais, ranked third in his class. He is the vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the math team and represented his class on the student council.
He has been a member of the golf, soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He was recognized with the Bausch and Lomb Math and Science Award in his junior year as well as being named a Downeast Athletic Conference all-star in golf, soccer, basketball and baseball.
