BOSTON – Boston University announced the founding of a women’s varsity ice hockey program that will play its inaugural season in the 2005-06 season. Brian Durocher will vacate his current position as associate head coach of the men’s team to accept the head coaching position for the women’s team. Durocher will begin recruiting his team from scratch 15 months before its first game is played.

Boston University will join Boston College, Northeastern, Providence College, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont in the women’s league in Hockey East.
