Summer 2004 marks the sixth annual Summer Art Camp to be held at the University of Maine Museum of Art. This year the museum offers seven weekly sessions of art and fun for students from grades one through eight, providing a unique opportunity for children to observe and practice art in a dedicated classroom at the museum.

Each camp session is taught by professional art instructors who use observation as a springboard for instruction while sparking creativity through a wide variety of media. Children also will spend time exploring the galleries and summer exhibitions as well as selections from the permanent collection. Each camp session ends with an “Exhibit Opening” to which parents and family are invited.

Sessions available: June 28-July 2, third and fourth grade; July 6-9, third and fourth grade; July 12-16, first and second grade; July 19-23, first and second grade; July 26-30, fifth and sixth grade; Aug. 2-6, fifth and sixth grade; Aug. 9-13, seventh and eighth grade. Sessions run 8:30 a.m.-noon each day.

Tuition is $115, includes all materials, $100 for members of the Museum of Art. Camp Bangor scholarships are accepted.

For registration information, visit the museum’s Web site at www.umma.umaine.edu, or call Kathryn Jovanelli at 561-3350.
