FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent in cooperation with the St. John Valley Partnership has initiated a bicycle loaner program to allow students, faculty and staff mobility around the campus and throughout the community. The partnership and UMFK say the project will promote wellness, lessen parking issues on campus and within the community, reduce pollution, and at a time when gasoline is at an all-time high, help curb rising fuel costs.

Eleven bikes were donated to the UMFK student senate for this project. Students, staff and faculty can sign out a bicycle from UMFK academic outreach director Dan Eno for up to one week. There are no fees for the rental. The person signing out the bike will be responsible for any damage during the time that it is in their possession.
