Police charge man with OUI, driving without license

A local man was arrested on charges of operating while under the influence and driving without a license Friday night after a Bangor police officer investigating reports of an intoxicated driver allegedly saw the man backing a car out of a Newton Street driveway.

Richard Dever, 21, was backing a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta out of the driveway when Officer Steve Jordan of the Bangor Police Department shined his spotlight on the vehicle, according to police. Dever stopped the car, and he and two passengers got out.

Dever, who according to a police report was blurry-eyed and had alcohol on his breath, approached Jordan and asked him what the problem was. Jordan replied that he was looking to see if there was a problem. When Jordan asked to see some identification, Dever verbally identified himself as “Bill Clinton” before handing Jordan his Maine state identification, according to the report.

Dever did not have a license and reportedly failed a sobriety test. The two passengers reportedly interfered with Jordan’s investigation but were not charged.

According to the report, Dever insisted he was just backing the vehicle up and was not driving. He said someone else had driven the car to the Newton Street residence. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A Brewer woman was charged with stealing prescription drugs Sunday.

Constance Turok, 63, of Brewer allegedly stole her roommate’s prescription medication. Her roommate contacted the Brewer Police Department after Turok supposedly admitted to her that she had taken the pills.

Sgt. Chris Martin of the Brewer Police Department investigated the complaint. Turok admitted to him that she had taken some of the missing pills, according to a police report.
