Exeter man sentenced to 9 years for 2003 assault

BANGOR – An Exeter man was sentenced Monday in Penobscot County Superior Court to 15 years in jail with all but nine years suspended on charges of beating a brother and sister more than a year ago.

Guy K. Maloon, 39, pleaded guilty in December to one count each of elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault, violation of condition of release, probation violation and terrorizing.

His sentencing includes six months of probation with numerous special conditions, including restitution of about $3,500.

“We were pleased with the significant sentence because we thought it was a very serious crime,” Alice Clifford, Penobscot County assistant district attorney, said Tuesday.

In February 2003, Maloon was accused of beating two people and knifing one in the face after an evening of drinking at Lucky’s Tavern in Newport.

He was taken into custody after Robert Greely, 45, and Kimberly King, 38, who are brother and sister and both of St. Albans, were found at about 4:30 a.m. Feb. 5, 2003, in a dairy barn at the Chambers Farm on Route 43 in St. Albans. Both had been beaten severely the night before, and Greely had a serious facial cut, according to state police.

Maloon allegedly beat the two in a car while a fourth person was driving them home. The brother and sister escaped from the car and hid for five hours in the barn before they were found.

The incident occurred while Maloon was on probation for previous convictions. He was charged with the assault on the brother and sister just hours after he was sentenced Feb. 7, 2003, in Penobscot County Superior Court for a 2001 assault against a Dexter police officer.
