Old Town police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and her mother Monday night.
Sgt. Scott Casey said that at about 10 p.m. he and Sgt. Michael Hashey went to an apartment off Pembroke Drive on a report of a domestic disturbance. Hashey interviewed those present and was told that Corey Spencer, 23, of Old Town was driving around with his girlfriend when an argument started.
The girlfriend reportedly got out at her mother’s house, Hashey said, and Spencer tried to follow her in but was told not to enter. When the mother tried to keep Spencer out and told him to leave, he forced the door open. Witnesses said Spencer then held his girlfriend against the wall and when her mother tried to remove him, he pushed her onto the couch.
An upstairs neighbor came down and removed Spencer from the apartment, with some struggle, and then called police.
Casey said he went to Spencer’s residence to speak with him. Spencer denied holding his girlfriend against the wall and said she and her mother, along with the upstairs neighbor, had all assaulted him. He acknowledged pushing the mother onto the couch but said it was in self-defense.
Casey said that when he and Hashey compared notes, they decided there was probable cause to arrest Spencer, charging him with criminal trespass and two counts of assault.

A Winterport man was arrested after he allegedly took part in a group-shoplifting scheme Monday night at T.J. Maxx in Bangor.
Bangor police Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 7:30 p.m. she went to T.J. Maxx for a theft complaint. She arrived to find a man leaving the store with two bags stuffed with clothes. A loss prevention worker followed the man out and detained him, Libby said.
The worker told Libby that employees witnessed some people putting clothing into a shopping cart. They then left, the worker said, and the man in custody came and removed the tags from the clothing and stuffed it into bags.
As the man left the store, the worker said, he was seen putting a bag containing four needles into the garbage.
The man initially told Libby his name was Jeremy Stevens. When dispatch told Libby that there was no listing under that name, however, the man eventually gave the name Jeremy Somers. Dispatch told Libby that Somers, 26, of Winterport, had three active warrants.
Somers was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with theft. Libby said field tests of the needles gave no result. They have been retained as evidence.
