So, the answer to “making Iraq free” is a new, state-of-the-art prison, like the ones we use in the United States?

Next will be tax cuts for the wealthiest, a No Child Left Behind Act, one-party rule in all the branches of government, the Patriot Act, color-coded terrorist threat alerts, health care insurance for less than 60 percent of the population. All of the supposed “great things” we have here in our “model democracy.”

It reminds me of the story of the guy who asked his sweetheart’s father for his blessing to marry the man’s daughter. When the father asked, “Do you intend to support my daughter in the manner to which she’s become accustomed?,” the young man replied, “No, sir. I hope to do better.”

Couldn’t we hope to do better, for all of us?
