MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have signed 10 of their 50 draft picks, but they are still waiting for Maine high school star Mark Rogers’ autograph on a contract.
The team’s first-two draft picks – right-hander Rogers from Mount Ararat High School in Topsham and right-hander Yovani Gallardo from Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth, Texas – have yet to sign.
The team cannot negotiate with Rogers until his high school career is over.
Rogers, the Gatorade national Player of the Year, will lead his high school team to the state Class A state championship game Monday at 6 p.m. The game was postponed from Saturday and moved to Hadlock Field in Portland, where the Eastern League AA Portland Sea Dogs play.
The game was moved from Gorham High School to accommodate a large crowd that’s expected to turn out. Mount Ararat will play defending state champ Deering High School of Portland.
Heading the list announced Saturday of signed players are the team’s third, fourth, and fifth-round selections.
