4 hurt in pileup at Pittsfield intersection

PITTSFIELD – Four people received minor injuries Friday morning when three cars collided at the intersection of Main and Park streets.

The intersection has street-mounted traffic lights, not aerial lights, and has been the scene of many crashes.

Carmen Shaw, 54, of Palmyra drove her 1994 Mitsubishi Gallant through a red light Friday about 10:48 a.m., Officer Rodney Minoty said. Shaw was southbound on Main Street, and she struck a 1987 GMC pickup truck driven by Richardie Chute, 33, of Pittsfield that was crossing through the intersection.

Chute’s vehicle was spun around and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Marjorie Weeman, 69, of St. Albans. Shaw’s vehicle was demolished while the other two cars received substantial damage.

All six women in the cars were wearing seat belts, Minoty said. Two ambulances went to the scene and treated those involved, but all refused to be transported and made their own arrangements to be taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital.

Those injured were Shaw’s passenger, Lenora MacLeod, 57, of Palmyra; Chute; and Weeman’s passengers Maxine Ervin, 78, of Corinna and Rosalie Brann, 69, of Troy.
