HOLDEN – A male moose was killed Friday morning when it was hit by a tractor-trailer truck in front of Fox Run Furniture on Route 1A.

The moose, which Officer Chris Greeley of the Holden Police Department estimated was 3 to 5 years old, was killed instantly. No damage was done to the vehicle, which was carrying truck caps to Augusta.

Harry Catherman, 43, was driving the truck for Penske Corp. of Indiana, according to Greeley.

The accident stopped traffic for an estimated five minutes, and delayed traffic for half an hour.

A local resident claimed the moose’s body, according to Greeley.
