Following is the referendum question that would appear on the November ballot, if the petition drive were successful:

“ORDER, Authorizing Construction of a Police Headquarters Building at 240 Main Street, Bangor Maine

WHEREAS, the current Police Headquarters located on Court Street no longer meets the needs of the department and its employees; and

WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of locating major public facilities, including the police building, in or near downtown, and

WHEREAS, locating the police department at 240 Main Street will ensure ease of access to the police department for business and the public; and

WHEREAS, the Council directed staff to proceed to develop a new police building at 107 Maine Avenue by adopting Council Order 04-155 on May 24, 2004,

NOW, THEREFORE, by the City Council of the City of Bangor, be it ORDERED,

THAT Council Order 04-155 is hereby rescinded and City staff is hereby authorized and directed to take the necessary steps to proceed with the location and construction of the police headquarters building at 240 Main Street.”
