ELLSWORTH – The City Council voted Monday night to adopt a $19 million budget for the 2004-2005 year.
The budget is roughly $2 million more than the annual budget adopted by the council a year ago. The city will have to raise $10.2 million in taxes to support the 2004-2005 budget.
In other business, the council:
. Adopted a High Street beautification plan drafted by WBRC Architects of Bangor.
. Agreed to send the state a letter in support of Sunrise Trail Coalition’s goal of having the former Calais branch rail corridor between Brewer and Eastport converted into a trail system.
. Awarded a $5,720 contract for hauling wastewater plant sludge to Windsong Farms Trucking of Levant.
. Chose Peasley & O’Halloran of Ellsworth to reconstruct one mile of Gary Moore Road at a cost of $267,300.
. Accepted a $100,000 federal grant for helping property owners make improvements to building facades in the city’s urban center.
