Air Combat Medal

CHERRY POINT, N.C. – Marine Corps Capt. Scott A. Cormier, a 1994 graduate of Old Town High School, recently received the Air Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for flight operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron One, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Marine Corps Air Station.

While serving as an electronic countermeasures officer, Cormier and the crew of his EA-6B Prowler, a long-range aircraft with advanced electronic countermeasures and communication jamming capabilities, supported two coalition strike groups as they launched assaults on various targets in Iraq. Despite receiving enemy surface-to-air missile fire, Cormier expertly manipulated his aircraft’s weapon systems in order to best support the strike aircraft by jamming both enemy radars and communication networks.

Flight training

WINTERPORT – Aleksander Jadkowski, a recent graduate of Hampden Academy, has been selected for the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Flight Training Program. He is only the second person in 10 years from the New England region to be accepted into the program right out of high school.

Jadkowski lived near Bangor International Airport as a child and remembers falling asleep to the sound of planes coming and going. He dreamed of becoming an aviator.

Recruiter and Staff Sgt. Gregory Boivin of the Bangor Recruiting Station said that Jadkowski was accepted into the flight training program because of the high scores he received on Armed Services Vocational Aptitude tests, and because of a strong personal appearance before a panel of Army officers.

Jadkowski will do basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and officer candidate school and flight training at Fort Rucker, Ala. He is the son of Margaret Southworth of Winterport and Mark Jadkowski of Hampden.
