GSA speaker series to begin in July

BLUE HILL – George Stevens Academy has announced their 16th annual Summer Speaker Series. All speakers will give their talks at 7:30 Tuesdays. Admission is free. Speakers and dates are as follows:

. July 6, Peter Davis will give a talk titled “From Vietnam to Iraq – A Crooked Path.” Davis is an Emmy and Oscar winning director, and has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

. July 13, Paul Ekman will give a talk titled “About Face.” Ekman is a professor of psychology at the University of California Department of Psychiatry.

. July 20, Jonatha Ceely will give a talk titled “The Irish Famine and the Roman Ghetto: Finding Connections Through Fiction. Ceely is the author of “Mina.”

. July 27, Anne Van Buren will give a talk titled “After Images of Jan Van Eyck: Reconstructing Some of His Lost Paintings.” Van Buren is a retired professor who formerly taught at Tufts.

. Aug. 3, John Fiske will give a talk titled “Seventeenth Century Dining: The Table Manners and Furniture of Our Ancestors.” Fiske is a featured speaker at the Academy Antiques Show.

. Aug. 10, David Maxwell will lead a discussion titled “The Responsibilities of Leadership.” Maxwell is the former chairman and CEO of Fannie Mae, and was named one of the “10 greatest CEOs of all time” by Fortune Magazine.

. Aug. 17, Jake Ward will give a talk titled “Creating Economic Opportunity in Maine Through Research, Development, and Innovation.” Ward is executive director for research and economic development at the University of Maine.

. Aug. 24, Suzanne Massie will give a talk titled “Russia Yesterday and Today.” Massie is an author and a former adviser to President Reagan.

. Aug. 31, Dr. John Roberts will speak about Benjamin Franklin in a talk titled “Ben and Us.”
