ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Bangor Lumberjacks split the weekend series with Elmira, winning their fifth straight with a 3-2 decision Saturday at Dunn Field and dropping Sunday’s game 2-1 on a ninth inning pinch-hit RBI single.

Bangor is 15-15 overall in the Northeast League while Elmira is 8-20.

On Saturday, Jose Garcia’s double scored Mark Burke with the game-winning run in the sixth inning. Bangor’s other two runs came courtesy of Derry Hammond’s Northeast League-leading 10th home run in the fourth.

Laine McKeller notched the win in relief after pitching 2 1/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless ball for Bangor. New acquisition Isaac Pavlik, who was signed Thursday, pitched the ninth for his first save.

Elmira got both runs in the bottom of the fifth after Dennis Abreau hit an RBI single and Steve Checksfield followed with an RBI triple.

On Sunday, Jobu Morita’s line-drive single scored Checksfield, who reached on a one-out double down the left field line. Checksfield also singled and was the only multiple hitter in the game.

Bangor’s lone run came in the second.

Lumberjacks starter Jerry Long pitched 7 1/3 innings of five-hit ball, striking out six batters and walking three.

Julio LaSalle held the Lumberjacks to two hits and one run for eight innings before giving way to Robbie Morrison (1-1), who earned the win despite giving up a hit and a walk in the ninth.

Bangor is back home for a three-game series against the Aces Monday and hosts Quebec July 2-4.

Fisher Cats 4, Sea Dogs 3

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Dominic Rich singled home Maikel Jova with the deciding run in the fourth inning to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 4-3 win and a sweep of their three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday.

New Hampshire (41-33) also got a 2-run home run from Victor Valencia and a sacrifice fly from Aaron Hill. Gustavo Chacin (7-2) went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits to earn his third straight win.

and John Ogiltree notched his first save. Josh Stevens (3-6) was the loser.

Portland (35-41) got home runs from Mike O’Keefe and Sean McGowan.
