A Florida man was charged with OUI and possession of marijuana early Tuesday after allegedly running a stop sign in Bangor.
Benjamin Meek, 22, of Casselberry, Fla., was driving down Union Street in Bangor when Officer Wade Betters of the Bangor Police Department pulled behind him. Betters said in his report that Meek was drifting over the yellow dividing line and then jerked his car sharply back to the right.
Meek was following another car that turned into Marshall’s parking lot on Union Street, according to Betters. Betters followed the two cars, and watched as Meek allegedly drove through a stop sign without slowing down.
Betters pulled Meek over and asked him how much he had had to drink, to which Meek reportedly responded “four or five.” Meek allegedly said he was only driving because he didn’t want to leave his brother’s car in a parking lot overnight. Betters asked Meek to step out of the car and take a field sobriety test.
After the test, Betters decided to charge Meek with OUI and placed him in the police cruiser. Betters proceeded to search the 1988 Audi 90 that Meek had been driving, where he found a bag of marijuana, according to reports. The vehicle Meek was driving was registered under his brother’s name.
The vehicle was towed. Meek was released later that night.
A window was broken by the main entrance of Bangor High School late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
Officer Jason Stuart of the Bangor Police Department responded to the call Tuesday morning. He spoke to a school employee who said the last person to leave the school did so at 8 p.m. Monday.
The employee also said that someone had been “messing with things” at the school over the last few nights.
There are no suspects at this time.
