Israeli aircraft refuel at Bangor International

BANGOR – A fleet of Israeli aircraft that stopped for fuel Tuesday at Bangor International Airport attracted the attention of residents.

Eight F-15 fighters and two 707 support aircraft began flying into the airport at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, their crews resting before leaving today for training out West, according to Lt. Col. Mark Tuck.

“It’s just folks passing through Bangor,” he said Tuesday. “They’re generally not here more than 24 hours.”

Tuck said he had heard the fleet attracted attention as it flew into BIA, though Israeli crews stop at the airport a couple of times a year to rest and refuel. “Bangor’s a fairly friendly military site,” Tuck said.
