A Maine native was presented with the Purple Heart medal during a June 12 ceremony at Camp Freedom in Mosul, Iraq.
Sgt. Michael Libby, 32, suffered shrapnel wounds during a mortar attack while he was on duty at the Mosul airfield on Memorial Day. He has been in Iraq since March.
Libby, son of Richard and Juanita Boddy of Millinocket, has been in the service for nine years. He is a military police officer with the 330th Military Police Detachment, an Army Reserve unit based in Sheboygan, Wis.
When not on active duty with the Army, Libby works as a network analyst in De Pere, Wis., where he lives with his wife, Diana, and son, Jayden.
